Greetings, allow me to introduce myself. I am the artistic director of Collectif and then… We make contemporary performances and installations together which draw on our various circus practices.

The hands that wrote this essay are attached to the part of the monster that calls themself Tay Lane, though of course and as always, they can’t claim sole authorship. Tay likes to live and work between realities. They easily get mixed up between what could be called fact and fantasy, and are interested in playing with the boundaries between them. They have worked with their circus company Collectif and then ... since 2009, as a performer, writer, organiser, runner, fundraiser, monster, driver and cleaner among other roles. The monster has had their tentacles in many pies, from circus tents in Rio de Janeiro to cable factories in Prague to their very own Circus Boat in London Town, and have won awards such as The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award, Silver medal in Cirque de Demain and The Cirque Du Soleil innovation Award for their act with Laura Stokes. Tay undertook an MA in choreography (circus specialisation) in Stockholm University of the Arts, writes, circuses, performs, reads, rolls around and dabbles in magic.
